The Heavy Stuff

The Heavy Stuff, 2018 Paper mache and filler on metal armature, shopping cart.

The installation underlines the heaviness that is put on human shoulders. The work is developed following my dream where I was carrying and dragging a very heavy stone on my shoulders. I wanted to create this large stone that I saw in my dream. I felt that the heaviness is built on me personally as well, as being a woman, a mother, having so much responsibilities and being looked at.

The shopping cart symbolises our consumerist society. The stone in the shopping cart- heaviness of the everyday life which we all enjoy and hate at the same time.

‘Overconsumption is a situation where resource use has outpaced the sustainable capacity of the ecosystem. A prolonged pattern of overconsumption leads to environmental degradation and the eventual loss of resource bases.’ Wiki
