Evija Laivina was born in Latvia (1978) and living in Scotland. She started to work in photography in 2007. After moving to live in Scotland in 2009, she explored portrait photography and conceptual photography. In her research-based projects, she portrays reality through the fine art prism, using symbols and metaphorical language and often dark humour. Aesthetic surgery and virtual world’s obsession with perfection is playing a key part within her research, feeding her work- photography, sculptures and installations. Laivina currently lives in Inverness, Scotland and works at her studio at Inverness Creative Academy.
